The Afternoon Tea Club Reviews: The Lawn Collection

The Lawn Collection.

As always, it’s one of our fave things in the world to arrive home to some tea samples through the letterbox and this week’s posted treats came from The Lawn, a boutique tea company based in the Cotswolds.

Starting with the classic breakfast tea, the English Breakfast brew is a good strong cuppa for those difficult Monday mornings and packaged in a pretty polka-dot box makes it an ideal gift for the tea lover in your life.

Classic Breakfast Tea in a classic vintage cup.

We also tried a selection of fruit and classic flavours including Green & Peppermint, Rooibos & Rhubarb and Earl Grey. We're always a fan of peppermint tea so that very much welcomed but our fave was the rhubarb - a unique flavour but very subtle.

Finally, the highlight from the selection was the Rose Garden Fruit Tea. The beautiful, summer floral perfume invites you in straight away and the gorgeous pink rose buds are just lovely – this is quite simply summer in a jar. It’s fruity, refreshing and we highly recommend taking a few moments to enjoy this blend, relaxing in your garden.

The Afternoon Tea Club Cuts the Cake

Ah January, detox month – time to ask for gluttonous forgiveness and get over those overindulgent chocolate binges and festive drinks.
Whittard's Green Tea.

But if you’re anything like us, the chocolate pile from Christmas, doesn’t just disappear come the last verse of Auld Lang Syne. With all the good intentions of gym memberships, substituting orange Matchmakers for carrot sticks and fitting that 20 minute run into your lunch hour, it just seems a little bit sad, wasteful, criminal even, to throw away those untouched boxes of Malteasars.
So rather than punish ourselves, we declared February would be our realistic detox month – time to ditch the cake and start the detox!

Goodbye cake, hello fruit ... tea.

The lovely people at Whittard got us into the spirit with a detox package perfect for tea lovers like us. Bundled together with the Whittard seal of approval was a beautifully presented tin of green teas, caffeine free fruit tea and our very own Pao mugs equipped with infusers – suddenly, detox didn’t seem so scary!

Superior Green Tea selection.

Putting our new mugs to the test, we went for the loose fruit tea. There’s something about the smell of the Strawberry and Kiwi tea that just wakes you up. It’s refreshing and airy and though we did leave it to brew for quite a long time, it doesn’t hit you in the face which is good if you’re feeling a little bit un-enthused about the whole cutting-down thing.

Gotta love accessories.

From the green tea selection our favourites had to be the Strawberry and Rhubarb and Gunpowder flavours. On completely opposite ends of the tea spectrum, the Rhubarb flavour was subtle but pleasant, something to wind down with, whereas the Gunpowder was, as you would imagine a little heavier and smoky.
The verdict? If you’re hoping to battle the February fitness climb, these teas are the perfect companion to give you a little sweet fix and feel good about it.

Fruit Broo Tea - Winter Warmers

We've recently discovered a brand new range of delicious fruit teas - Fruit Broo - and what better way to sample these than in front of the fire on a cold winter's afternoon...

FruitBroo

Coming in six varieties, there's plenty to choose from, but after trying them all our favourite by far was the 'Rhubarb, Apple and Cinnamon' variety.

The fruity apple and rhubarb, combined with festive cinnamon flavours were the perfect Xmas mood-setter - and ideal for those wanting to fight off the new year blues.

Definitely worth a try if you're looking for something a bit different!

Product Review: Lov Organic Tea

A couple of months ago the lovely folk at LOV Organic sent us a goodie bag of fruit teas to sample and oh how we LOV'ed them... here's how we got on:

LOV-ely packaging!

Caroline - Citrus Fruit Tea:
A wonderful deep amber colour makes this tea visually very appealing, whilst its well balanced and refreshing palate is perfect for enjoying hot or cold.

I particularly enjoyed the Citrus Fruit Tea warm, as it offered a rich fruitiness which really zinged the taste buds, bringing out a full and intense mandarin flavour.

Unlike many other fruit teas I have tried, Lov Organic Citrus Fruit Tea did not disappoint.

What's in the tin?

Laura - Exotic Fruit Tea:
As soon as I popped open the tin, the potent smell of Lov's Exotic Fruit Tea made me think of summer. Whilst being incredibly fruity, it also has quite a spicey quality to it which creates a wonderful warming flavour.

I decided to first try the tea hot. You can really taste the apple and mango chunks fused together and the hints of pineapple and hisbiscus really set it off. Still, these flavours are not too overpowering and it's still at heart a very soothing tea.

I think that even those who aren't big into fruity teas might find their taste buds tickled by Lov's Exotic Tea, particularly when drank cold. I would definitely recommend putting it over ice - a great little refresher for our surprisingly summery summer!

Lov Organic Teas can be purchased both online and from a variety of high street retailers.
