The Afternoon Tea Club Reviews: Cloud 23, Manchester

Cloud 23 has been on our Afternoon Tea to-do list for quite some time. Having only experienced the 23rd floor bar for evening drinks at one of the most iconic buildings on Manchester's skyline, we were very excited to try the menu at Hilton’s Deansgate Hotel.

The bar is decked out with contemporary, spacious lounge seating but really, it’s all about the views outside the tea room here. We highly recommend requesting a window seat if you’re planning on tea with a party of 2 or 3, the views over Manchester are amazing, especially on a summer’s afternoon where you will, quite literally, experience the ultimate height of high tea.

The food itself is equally impressive. Our afternoon tea came on a modern oval stand filled with an generous assortment of sweet and savoury bites. It’s always good to have a nice mix of flavours and textures and this particular menu did not disappoint, offering a selection of traditional finger sandwiches filled with; coronation chicken, cheese and onion, and egg, along with a sweet potato wrap and mini cheese and tomato roll.

This was shortly followed by classic fruit scones with jam and clotted cream - usually one scone per person isn’t how we like to do things here but judging by the amount of food we had to get through, we can agree that was probably a good call and just as delicious!

To finish, our colourful dessert selection included an iconic battenberg slice, kiwi lime jelly and chocolate and coffee cake. The coffee cake wasn't for the faint hearted but the jelly was a nice light refreshment to conclude.

The selection of teas was very good indeed, offering a range of traditional, infusions and Cloud 23 blends. A signature earl grey and traditional english were our tipple of choice on this occasion.

The service was a little slow on this particular visit so our tea top ups were not as frequent as we had hoped, however the place was packed with parties large and small, so it was understandable and the staff themselves were perfectly friendly.

Cloud 23 is one of those Manchester hot spots that’s a must see for visitors and natives alike. We’ve finally ticked a box on our to-do list and we highly recommend you add it to yours.

Coffee Break: Ezra & Gil, Manchester

Ezra & Gil
The staple fave of many a Manchester resident, Ezra and Gil combines urban chic surroundings with a rustic selection of breads, coffee and cake. Choose from a range of salads and sandwiches (which look Ah-Mazing!) or just pop in for a coffee and cake - either way you're on to a winner!

Open seven days a week, this place is idea for a post shopping brew or a working lunch. On my visit, I only had chance to order a quick coffee but I'll definitely be back to try out the lunch and cake menu!
